Stuck in the back seat
With my sister Holly again,
Five plus hours to Brainerd
It was worth it in the end.
Pulled into the resort
Waited for Dad to check in,
Moved into our cabin
And let the fun begin.
Rented a boat
Went out on the lake
Spent the whole day fishing
Man, it was great.
We kept Dad busy
Setting up, baiting hooks,
While Mom sat and relaxed
Reading one of her books.
Holly got her worm first
Dad started mine at last,
Then she said “watch out!”
We ducked while she cast.
Dad had us both ready
He thought he was done,
He started for his pole
When I said “I caught one!”
At night we cooked supper
Hotdogs, over the fire,
Then played Monopoly
Until we grew tired.
Spent the next day in town
Visited Paul Bunyan Land,
Went shopping for souvenirs
Raced turtles in the sand.
We spent our week relaxing
Touring, swimming, fishing,
When we packed to leave
For more time, we all were wishing
